Glass has a long history as a light-responsive decorative surface. Byzantine mosaics used coloured glass tesserae, including examples incorporating gold and silver leaf, to create richly reflective compositions. When specifying decorative glass tiles, review samples under the lighting intended for the room. Transparent, iridescent, metallic and strongly textured surfaces can alter with viewing angle, surrounding colour and illumination. Sample review also helps establish grout tone, junctions and relationships with adjacent stone, timber or metal.
