The Bijou Horta mosaic, a marble inlay by The Artistic Tile Company, is an obvious reference to Art Nouveau and contrasts polished Thassos snow white marble and honed Lagos Azul warm grey limestone lines and dots with gold leaf glass dots.
As these tiles are custom-made, a wide variety of materials and colours can be used – see Blanc Horta, Bleu Horta, Ciel Horta, Sable Horta and Crème Horta.
The scrolling repeat reflects the sinuous vegetal vocabulary associated with Art Nouveau. Polished Thassos provides a pale ground, while Lagos Azul and gold leaf glass create a sharper graphic rhythm. Waterjet cutting is particularly suited to the narrow arcs and circular details, allowing the line to continue through an interlocking field rather than reading as a conventional rectilinear mosaic.
Within De Ferranti’s Waterjet Mosaics collection, Bijou is one of the higher-contrast Horta colourways. For comparison with stone tesserae and other techniques, Mosaics: All Disciplines gives a broader view of De Ferranti’s mosaic offer.
For the Bijou Horta mosaic, review several modules together before fixing so the scrolling repeat, grout tone and natural stone variation can be assessed as one composition. Samples are recommended where surrounding marble, metal or joinery needs close colour coordination. Where Bijou is planned as a feature panel or inset, establish the perimeter before ordering and check how the scrolling repeat terminates at each edge. This is particularly important beside larger-format stone, where a deliberate junction will keep the waterjet field visually coherent.
