Hide Collection – Leather Tiles

The Hide Collection's saddle leather tiles are inspired by ancient terracotta floors. English saddlery leather is cut to shape and then painstakingly hand dyed and hand finished to create a subtly antiqued patina.

Applied to a stable marine ply base, the leather tiles come in a range of natural colours; natural, tan and chocolate as well as vivid contemporary colours such as saffron and mustard. Custom colours can be produced to order. This is a highly sensual collection; the feel and aroma of natural leather are visually enhanced by decorative techniques including embossing, hammering and stamping.

Designed for use on interior walls and floors, leather can be laid in a variety of patterns including herringbone and Parquet de Versailles. It is also designed to work in combination with other De Ferranti collections, from metal to stone.

A collaboration with textile designer Neisha Crosland has resulted in a contemporary collection of leather tiles etched with her popular Molly pattern.

Saddle Leather Tiles with Brogue Detail

Within the Hide Collection, saddle leather tiles are treated as a crafted surface rather than a simple covering. The range includes paviers, briquettes, border pieces, herringbone and Parquet de Versailles compositions, with several designs drawing on the perforated and embossed language of English brogue leatherwork. Hand colouring, patination and distressing create depth and variation across the surface.

The Chocolate Leather Brogue Briquette project in Hampstead shows the material in a furnished residential interior, while De Ferranti's metal floor and wall tiles provide a useful comparison for projects exploring related modular formats in a contrasting material.

Planning Colour, Pattern and Patina

Review samples for colour, grain and hand-finished variation before confirming quantities. Pattern direction, borders and transitions should be planned with adjoining surfaces in mind, particularly for herringbone and parquet-based layouts.
