These tan tattoo leather briquettes are inspired by time-worn English leatherwork and use an embossed Tattoo design as their defining detail. The briquettes are veneered over a marine ply substrate for ease of installation. After embossing, they are painstakingly coloured, patinated and distressed before receiving a coat of sealer and wax.

Tan Tattoo Leather Briquettes and Embossed Motif

Unlike the linear perforation of the brogue pieces, the Tattoo motif sits within the face of each briquette as a repeated decorative mark. The pale embossed pattern stands out against tan, russet and darker brown areas, creating a surface that reads differently at close range and across a larger field. Tan Brogue Border Briquettes offer a useful comparison in the same colour family, while Zulu takes the Hide Collection towards a more strongly textured all-over pattern.

Balancing Repeat, Patina and Layout

Set-out should consider both the direction of the rectangular briquettes and the spacing of the embossed motifs. Samples are valuable for reviewing colour variation, the strength of the Tattoo impression and the relationship between distressed areas and the repeat. The wider Hide Collection provides quieter and more geometric alternatives, while De Ferranti’s Neisha Crosland collaboration offers another approach to pattern translated across specialist surfaces.

The motif is decorative enough to work as a focal surface, so neighbouring patterns should be assessed carefully. Plain stone, timber or quieter leather can give the Tattoo repeat sufficient visual space.
