Inspired by English brogue shoes, these bronze brogue tiles are Bronze Briquettes from De Ferranti’s ‘Alchemy’ Collection. The briquettes have a surface of patinated Brass (bronzed) with an embossed brogue border to its outer edge. Tiles are bonded to a marine ply base. Also in De Ferranti’s Alchemy Collection are briquettes in Brass, German Silver and Copper. Tiles in different metals can be used together to create patterns. Bespoke sizes and finishes are available to order. Current product guidance identifies this design as suitable for walls only.
The distinctive detail translates a language associated with traditional English footwear into worked metal. Perforated brogue-style edging frames each rectangular field, while the bronzed patina moves through brown, copper and muted olive tones. Across a larger wall, the repeated borders create an ordered grid with texture that becomes more apparent as light moves over the surface.
The relationship between leatherwork and metal can be explored through De Ferranti’s Natural Brogue Leather Briquettes. Within the Alchemy Collection, Bronze Tiles offer a quieter square surface, while Patinated Bronze provides another approach to warm, aged metallic colour.
Because the border is integral to the design, bronze brogue tiles should be set out with full modules, joint alignment and the way the pattern meets corners, openings and joinery in mind. Samples are useful for assessing the patina under the intended lighting, particularly where grazing light will emphasise the embossed edge. For further worked-metal references, De Ferranti’s Embossed & Repoussé Relief Work in Metal explores raised and patterned metal surfaces.
