From the towering cliffs of Santorini to the imposing rock formations of Mount Etna, De Ferranti's Lava collection of lava stone tiles is truly magnificent. Reminiscent of lava-spewing volcanoes, organic in form, each contour gives unique character to the briquettes. With the ability to withstand very high temperatures, lava behaves much the same way as ceramic: it can be glazed and fired. Our lava is either supplied flat, split-faced or textured. We are also able to decorate our Lava Tiles with custom patterns and designs.

 

Lava Stone Tiles and Fired Surface Character

Volcanic stone offers a distinctive meeting point between geology and surface craft. In glazed pieces, the fired coating can intensify colour and catch light across an irregular face; in unglazed or composed surfaces, mineral tone and fragment structure remain the visual focus. Heavy Metal shows the collection's dramatic split-faced brick language, while Velvet Magma introduces a softer two-tone treatment. Both demonstrate how relief and directional lighting can alter the reading of a wall.

 

Volcanic Texture for Walls, Floors and Features

Within the broader collection, lava stone tiles sit alongside patterned volcanic compositions suited to different design approaches. Volcanicus Sienna reinterprets the warm colour relationships associated with historic terracotta through volcanic stone, while De Ferranti's Stone Surfaces with Texture collection offers useful context for projects built around tactile stone and shadow. Depending on the selected product, format and finish, the material can be considered for feature walls, floors, fireplace surrounds, bathrooms, kitchens and selected exterior or pool settings. Project-specific suitability should always be reviewed before specification.

Samples are especially useful with volcanic surfaces because tonal variation, glaze response and relief can change the effect from one piece to another. For larger schemes, review orientation, joint rhythm, lighting and adjacent materials together rather than treating the tile as an isolated sample.
