Lapis and Jasper Eye Quatrefoil Inlay Panel

This lapis jasper inlay panel combines a repeating quatrefoil framework with eye motifs and strong blocks of mineral colour. Four ochre-toned quatrefoils are outlined in pale stone around a deep blue central star, while each field contains a finely drawn eye picked out in blue, white and darker accents.

Lapis Jasper Inlay Panel with Eye Quatrefoils

The composition is highly ordered. Each quatrefoil occupies one quarter of the square and turns inward towards the dark central star, creating a symmetrical structure that holds the smaller figurative eyes in place. Warm brown and ochre fields counter the intensity of the blue stone, while pale outlines separate the major shapes and keep the geometry legible. The result moves between geometric pavement and symbolic panel without relying on a conventional floral repeat.

The El Jem Peacock Plume Inlay Panel uses eye-like forms in a more fluid Roman-inspired composition. The Dove Burl Grey Marble Inlay with Black Micro Mosaic offers a monochrome comparison based on continuous scrolls. De Ferranti’s Pietre Dure / Pierre Dure collection provides further context for coloured mineral inlay and pictorial hardstone work.

Positioning a Symbolic Inlay Panel

Because the lapis jasper inlay panel has a strong centre, its relationship to room axes should be resolved before production or fixing. On a wall, align the central star with the intended sightline or piece of joinery. For an appropriate floor installation, consider how the square meets thresholds and surrounding field material. Semi-precious colour can change markedly between diffuse daylight and focused artificial light, so representative samples should be reviewed in the intended setting. Confirm the substrate, edge detail, joint strategy, finish and precise interior application before specification.
