This tiger stone tile combines sandstone and black marble in the broad striped language of The Serengeti Collection. It belongs to a group of four animal-pattern designs and is shown in polished opus sectile . Inlay and mosaic versions can also interpret the motif, changing the scale of joints and the tactile reading of the finished surface.

Opus sectile is an ancient Roman technique based on assembling shaped pieces of stone to form an image or pattern. Its elements are generally larger and more individually shaped than the tesserae of conventional mosaic , making it well suited to bold graphic forms.

Broad irregular black stripes sweep across the ochre sandstone field, some tapering sharply and others widening before breaking. This gives Tiger a more emphatic directional character than Jaguar or Leopard. The contrast is immediate, but the variable width and spacing of the bands prevent the surface from becoming a uniform zebra-like stripe.
