This leaf inlay panel is a sculptural composition in which a chiselled, grooved wave meets fine inset detail. Red and warm brass leaf forms float above the sweeping textured field, while a narrow blue line follows the crest of the curve and sharpens the separation between smooth and worked surfaces.
The design depends on contrast rather than dense ornament. Parallel grooves give the lower section a strong directional movement, while the upper field remains quieter and allows the individual red and golden leaf shapes to read clearly. The result sits between decorative panel, relief surface and material study, with colour introduced as isolated points rather than an all-over pattern.
For related approaches to hardstone and colour, De Ferranti’s / Pierre Dure collection explores more formal stone inlay traditions. Within this group, the Amoeba Inlaid Tile offers a more abstract language, while Campione di Fiore shifts towards a pictorial composition assembled from fragments.
The difference between the grooved , smooth inset leaves and coloured line should be considered under the actual lighting of the room. Grazing light will emphasise the carved wave, while frontal light can make the inlaid colour more prominent. For a project, review a sample or representative panel before confirming adjacent stone, joint treatment and orientation. Suitability for a particular wall, furniture element or other interior application should be confirmed against the proposed substrate and installation method. On larger compositions, the relationship between repeated wave sections and surrounding plain material should also be resolved in the setting-out drawings.
