Neisha Crosland
Legno

This woodfired terracotta herringbone uses the pale, dusty Legno module in a Punto Unghero layout, giving a directional floor the tonal movement of traditional wood-kiln firing. The clay is handmade and fired in Arabesque wood-fired kilns, a process retained by relatively few producers as more controlled firing methods have become standard. Its pale, dusty register and natural firing variation give the pattern a softer reading than a uniformly coloured herringbone floor.

Woodfired Terracotta Herringbone and Surface Character

The narrow elements create a parquet-like movement in fired earth rather than timber. Pale chalky and dusty tones make the geometry quieter, while the variation created by wood firing means the directional repeat is never visually flat or overly regular.

Pattern Planning and Material Pairing

The centre line and angle of the woodfired terracotta herringbone should be established before installation so the pattern meets walls and thresholds cleanly. Mix current production across the laying area to distribute tonal variation and review grout with several pieces rather than choosing it from a single sample.

Because this is a handmade surface, the woodfired terracotta herringbone should be judged across several pieces rather than from one isolated sample.

Natural variation is part of the specification, so the finished field should be expected to carry small shifts in colour, edge and surface movement.

Within the same collection, compare Lido and Intarsio Terracotta for alternative treatments of colour, module or surface. The wider Terracotta Floors & Walls category provides the broader clay context, while Pavements, Pavimenti & Flooring offers a complementary reference for material-led flooring.
