Rima & McRae – Haus Series

De Ferranti's patterned limestone tiles in the Rima & McRae Haus Series are conceived as 'stone carpets', with repeated motifs flowing across joined modules as though softened by age. Designer-maker Rima Patel developed the collection with De Ferranti's long-standing finishing collaborators, drawing on worn textiles, rugs and hand-worked pattern rather than crisp mechanical repetition.

The series moves between geometry and loosely interpreted floral form. Its patterns can be arranged in more than one way, allowing the same modules to create different fields while retaining a sense of continuity. This versatility is central to the collection, especially where a floor needs to respond to room proportions, thresholds or a border.

Patterned Limestone Tiles Inspired by Worn Textiles

Individual designs reveal the breadth of the idea. Catbells began with a 1920s illustration of hot-air balloons, while Froswick takes a quieter geometric cue from a Viennese Arts and Crafts rug. Knot imagines strands of circles as a plait, Maidenhair recalls damask, Sail reworks herringbone and Yewbarrow refers to a faded Indian block-printed textile. The collection also includes Stencilled Volcanic Stone, where the same thinking is transferred onto a darker, visibly textured mineral surface.

Arranging a Stone Carpet

Before installation, lay out enough pieces to see the repeat at room scale. Some motifs benefit from a clear directional flow, while others can be rotated to create secondary patterns. Establish perimeter cuts, border widths and the position of fixed furniture early. Sample review should consider both pigment and stone variation.
