Stencilled, Painted Stone & Marble

De Ferranti's stencilled stone tiles and painted stone surfaces are designed to capture a faded, softly worn quality rather than the uniformity of mechanically printed decoration. On floors, the technique is often used to create a carpet-like field with repeating geometric designs framed within plainer materials. The same approach can be realised on walls, panels and other appropriate interior surfaces.

Limestone is the traditional material within this collection, while terracotta and poured concrete can also be decorated in related ways. Stencilled and painted pattern can additionally be explored on leather and verre églomisé, allowing designers to carry a decorative language across contrasting materials without making every surface identical.

Stencilled Stone Tiles Across Four Collections

The parent collection brings together four distinct approaches. Aboriginal-Inspired Dot Painted Stone uses repeated hand-applied marks and mineral colour on stone. Neisha Crosland - Tattoo Series translates graphic pattern into stencilled limestone, while Rima & McRae - Haus Series treats patterned stone almost as a floor textile, with repeats intended to flow across joined modules. Signature Art Series moves from repeat pattern into figurative painting on exceptionally thin marble panels. Together they show how stencilled stone tiles can operate as floors, wall fields, framed panels and focal surfaces.

Planning Pattern, Scale and Material

Specification should begin with the intended viewing distance, pattern scale and relationship between decorated and plain field material. Samples are useful for judging pigment against the natural variation of the stone, while a larger setting-out drawing or mock-up can resolve borders, joints, thresholds and interruptions before installation. Where a repeated motif crosses several modules, orientation should be agreed before cutting so the composition remains legible at edges and around fixed elements.
