This Black Iris micro mosaic forms part of an exquisite micro-mosaic panel devoted to the flora of Jordan. The Black Iris, Iris nigricans, is the national flower of Jordan. De Ferranti’s micro-mosaics are made from tiny pieces of stone, too small to handle comfortably with the fingers. Each stone is selected for its natural tone and beauty, with stone, semi-precious hardstones and agates among the materials used. The mosaics are constructed in a vermiculatum style, creating closely flowing courses and lively background movement.
