This mirror tessera mosaic takes inspiration from the mirrored rooms of Mughal architecture and uses small hand-cut elements to multiply light across a finely gridded surface. Each tessera begins as glass blown into balloon-like forms, which are then mirrored, cut into 1 x 1 cm pieces and fixed onto a marble mosaic base.

The small scale creates a denser, more jewel-like reflection than standard mirror tiles. In the featured panel, hundreds of pale silver squares form a regular mesh while minute tonal differences prevent the surface from reading as mechanically uniform. Light is broken into many small reflections, giving the mosaic depth and movement rather than a single uninterrupted mirrored image.
