Onice Verde Smeraldo is a rare luxury emerald green onyx admired for its luminous green colour, translucent depth and natural banding in tones of cream, white, honey, jade and deeper forest green. Its name translates as “emerald green onyx”, a fitting description for a stone whose jewel-like surface can become especially atmospheric when polished, bookmatched or backlit.

While Onice Verde Smeraldo is a contemporary luxury onyx rather than a single classical marble of antiquity, it belongs to the wider family of translucent onyx, alabaster and banded calcite stones prized since ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman times for vessels, carved objects, sacred interiors and decorative detail.

Its rich colour and ability to transmit light make it especially suited to backlit panels, bar fronts, bathrooms, vanity tops, wall features, fireplace surrounds, furniture and statement slabs where rare onyx and natural colour are central to the design.

Reviewing Banding and Backlighting

The featured slab shows long horizontal green, cream and honey bands with darker seams and natural variation. Decide whether these bands should run horizontally or vertically within the finished element before cutting. If illumination forms part of the design, test the actual slab under the intended light source, as pale cream areas and denser green zones will transmit light differently.
