Onice Tanzania Viola is a rare luxury purple onyx from Tanzania, admired for its translucent burgundy, violet, plum, white, orange, gold and brown movement. Sometimes associated with names such as Onice Viola, Onice Tanzania Dark or Onice Kilimangiaro Viola, this expressive onyx can appear clouded or linear depending on the direction of the cut, giving designers scope for either atmospheric panels or more directional compositions.

While Onice Tanzania Viola is a contemporary luxury onyx rather than a single classical marble of antiquity, it belongs to the wider family of translucent onyx, alabaster and banded calcite stones prized since ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman times for vessels, carved objects, sacred interiors and decorative detail.

Its dramatic colour and natural transparency make it especially suited to backlit panels, bar fronts, bathrooms, vanity tops, wall features, furniture and statement slabs where rare onyx, rich colour and transmitted light are central to the design.

Onice Tanzania Viola and Purple Onyx

The long burgundy and mauve bands visible in Onice Tanzania Viola give it a markedly different character from the pale gold of Onice Tanzania Giallo and the saturated red of Onice Fantasy Red. Choosing Cut Direction and Illumination

Review the actual slab before fabrication because the direction of cutting can strongly influence whether the pattern reads as layered, linear or clouded. For adjacent panels, plan the burgundy, cream and orange bands together before cutting. Where backlighting is proposed, test the selected slab so that darker plum areas and lighter cream bands produce the intended balance of illumination.
