Grand Antique d’Aubert
Grand Antique, also known as Grand Antique d’Aubert, is one of the most prestigious rare historic marbles of the French Pyrenees, quarried in the Lez valley near Aubert in Ariège. Celebrated for its powerful contrast of deep black limestone fragments and pure white calcite, this dramatic brecciated marble was already known and used in antiquity, with Roman quarrying recorded from at least the 3rd century and large quantities exported to Rome and Constantinople. Later prized in Byzantine architecture, Grand Antique was famously used in Hagia Sophia, before appearing in churches, funerary monuments, pietra dura work and grand decorative interiors across Europe. Its historic presence can be found in Saint-Louis-des-Invalides in Paris, the tomb of Joseph Bonaparte, the Château de Versailles and important ecclesiastical works in Rome and Venice.

With its bold black and white architecture, ancient provenance and extraordinary visual authority, Grand Antique is especially suited to luxury interiors, statement panels, bathrooms, fireplace surrounds, furniture, decorative slabs and projects where rare marbles, historic provenance and monumental character are essential.
