This tulip gesso wall panel is a bold and opulent interpretation of the tulip motif, combining a rich crimson ground with burnished gold relief. Stylised tulip flames and crescent forms are arranged in disciplined symmetry across the saturated red field. Fine crazing within the gesso gives the surface an aged, time-softened character, while the raised gold elements catch changing light. Gesso-based textured decoration is applied to stretched canvas, producing greater depth than a flat painted finish and allowing shadow, sheen and texture to shift as the viewer moves. Available exclusively from De Ferranti in 3m x 1m panels, Tulips can be used as wall cladding, statement panels, inset features or furniture overlays. Existing designs can be specified, or custom patterns and colourways commissioned for individual projects.
The tulip has a long history as a decorative motif across Ottoman and European design, but this composition avoids direct historical reproduction. Its flame-shaped flowers are simplified into bold gold outlines, alternating with circular crescent forms on the crackled crimson field. The repeat is formal enough for large areas yet sufficiently open for each motif to remain legible.
For a quieter botanical treatment, compare Roses Gesso on Canvas, while Tortoise Shell Damask offers denser relief and a darker amber palette. Schemes incorporating reflective metallic surfaces may also benefit from exploring Mirrors – Bevelled Painted & Verre Églomisé or Embossed & Repoussé Relief Work in Metal.
A tulip gesso wall panel should be sampled under the project’s actual lighting, as both the gold relief and crimson crackle respond strongly to angle and intensity. Resolve panel joints, motif continuation and furniture edges before manufacture.
