Etched Jali

This jali metal tile, Etched Jali from The Alchemy Collection, uses a tightly repeated geometric lattice across a warm, patinated metal surface. De Ferranti’s original collection text places these embossed metal tiles within a restrained decorative tradition influenced by Jean-Michel Frank and Giacometti. Here, the jali reference is expressed as surface pattern rather than as a pierced screen.

Jali Metal Tile and Lattice Geometry

The visible design combines small hexagonal and diamond-like cells into a dense network. Some areas read as clustered rosettes while others resolve into interlocking linear geometry, giving the surface a layered quality without relying on strong colour contrast. Because the pattern is shallow and continuous, light reveals it gradually as the viewing angle changes.

The related Etched Octagon offers a more regular grid, while Etched Arab Star develops a star-based tessellation. For the original pierced-screen tradition, De Ferranti’s Jali Screens in Marble Stone Metal & Wood shows how latticework can filter light and define space. The Alchemy Collection provides further patinated metal surfaces.

Using Dense Lattice in an Interior

A jali metal tile works best when the repeat is considered across a larger area. Joint placement should respect the geometry, and edge cuts should be planned so that the pattern finishes intentionally at borders and junctions. The current product information supports internal flooring and walling in residential, commercial and restaurant settings. Sample review will help establish how much of the lattice reads from the intended viewing distance and whether lighting should emphasise the pattern or allow it to remain a quieter textural layer.
