Neisha Crosland
Scroll and Fan Border Mosaic
This border pairs the disciplined structure of the classical scroll motif with rising fan-shaped forms rendered in deep green stone. The interplay between the ordered spiral and the ascending triangular segments creates a balanced yet dynamic composition - both grounded and expressive.

Geometry in dialogue with movement.

Black and green defines the scroll pattern with confident clarity, set against a field of Italian white . The green introduce depth and tonal contrast, recalling the rich palette often found in Roman decorative floors.

Each tessera is split by hand, irregular in edge and surface, then set traditionally in lime mortar. The slight variation in form and spacing gives the pattern life - allowing light to catch the surface in subtle, shifting ways.

Historically, such borders framed central panels, lending rhythm and containment to larger compositions within villas and civic spaces.

Structured yet fluid.
Decorative yet architectural.
