This dark polychrome mosaic field is a random assembly of mosaic fragments, hand cut and placed by hand. Simple and eye catching, the design shows a random field mosaic. Each stone is carefully selected, cut and then assembled by hand. The slight indentations in the mosaic field enhance the beauty of this mosaic despite its simplicity. Of particular interest is the irregular nature of the small tesserae, they sing and dance. Although randomly placed, there is much to be said about artistic licence here: no single creation will ever be the same. Only the discerning eye would pick this up, a small detail with maximum impact. As is the case with all the De Ferranti Mosaic collections, we are able to fully customise the materials and colours, and tailor the mosaics to your space, creating unique and personalised pieces.
Charcoal and near-black pieces dominate the composition, but cream, ochre, brown and occasional muted mineral colours keep the surface visually active. The strong light-dark alternation makes this version more graphic than the pale field mosaics around it. Field Mosaic – 5469Q shifts the balance towards deep green-grey, while Field Mosaic – 5469J is closer to monochrome black. The Marble & Onyx Collection can help coordinate adjoining dark stone and veined marble.
For a dark polychrome mosaic field, review multiple sheets together because pale and ochre tesserae become particularly noticeable against the charcoal base. Setting out should avoid unintended bands of light or warm colour unless a more concentrated random effect is desired. Grout can either reduce contrast between individual pieces or emphasise the hand-cut network. For flooring, swimming pools and warm-climate exterior settings, confirm substrate preparation, sealing, slip performance and exposure suitability before fixing.
