This black lip shell mosaic is made from raw Black Lip Mother of Pearl, sliced into irregular crazy-cut fragments and set with natural grout to create a rough crackled field. The result is deep, graphic and tactile, with the grout left visually present rather than hidden within a regular joint.

The unpolished shell pieces retain visible growth lines and natural banding, reading in smoky bronze, charcoal and olive with flashes of silver as the light moves. Their irregular geometry creates an almost geological pattern, like fractured terrain, while the nacre prevents the dark field from becoming visually heavy. A clear protective top coat is applied to stabilise and seal the surface while preserving its raw character.
