Scagliola Night Sky

Scagliola Night Sky is a dark scagliola surface developed for interiors that need the depth of marble-like movement in a near-black, night-led palette. Pigmented plaster allows the maker to build colour, veining and tonal variation rather than relying on the geology of one stone block. The result belongs to the historic language of stucco marble, yet the darker register gives it a strong contemporary role on columns, panels, furniture and other carefully specified interior elements.

Dark Scagliola Surface for Dramatic Interiors

The appeal of a dark scagliola lies in controlled variation. Instead of a flat black field, the surface can carry movement and subtle shifts that become more apparent as light travels across it. Scagliola Storm offers a softer grey transition, while Scagliola Sky moves to the opposite, lighter end of the same atmospheric colour family. This allows designers to explore contrast while keeping the craft technique consistent across a room or suite of spaces.

Scagliola has historically been used for columns, pilasters, wall surfaces, furniture and decorative details, and De Ferranti also lists Night Sky for fireplace surrounds, tabletops and suitable low traffic flooring among other interior uses. Where a project pairs the finish with genuine black, grey or veined stone, the Marble & Onyx Collection is a useful reference point. For smaller collected pieces or furniture-led applications, Objects of Desire & Curiosities provides another route into specialist material combinations.

Lighting, Samples and Dark Surface Planning

Dark finishes are sensitive to lighting, polish and adjacent colour, so a representative sample should be reviewed before approval. Consider whether the scagliola should read as a continuous field or as deliberate contrast against pale stone, plaster or timber. The scale and direction of veining should suit the finished element. Final substrate, fixing and traffic requirements must be confirmed for the commission.
