Stone pebble mosaics are among the earliest forms of decorative paving, used for centuries in courtyards, bathhouses and pathways throughout the Mediterranean and beyond. Their appeal lies in their simplicity - smooth, rounded stones arranged by hand to create texture, rhythm and subtle pattern.

At De Ferranti, our Pebble Mosaic collection ranges from tightly composed geometric layouts to more relaxed, organic formations. Natural colour variations - from soft greys and warm creams to charcoal and muted earth tones - allow for both understated and expressive installations.

Pebble mosaics are particularly suited to wet environments, spa areas, showers, garden paths and pool surrounds, where their tactile surface offers both visual warmth and practical grip.

Stone Pebble Mosaics and an Ancient Paving Tradition

Greek pebble floors with deliberate figurative and geometric designs are documented from the later 5th and early 4th centuries BC at sites including Olynthos. Later Macedonian examples at Pella developed more complex compositions and broader colour ranges. De Ferranti’s contemporary collection draws on the same fundamental idea of composing a surface from individually selected rounded stones, while moving between historical references, geometric fields and freer pictorial work.
