This polychrome peacock mosaic is a replica of a mosaic displayed at the Archaeological Museum of El-Djem. Each stone is carefully selected, cut and assembled by hand. Slight indentations in the mosaic field add texture and surface life, while dark lines and contrasting coloured tesserae give the feather forms definition against the pale background. The small tesserae retain an irregular, hand-worked character rather than reading as a mechanically perfect grid. As with other De Ferranti mosaic collections, materials, colours and dimensions can be tailored to the project, allowing the composition to be adjusted for a particular floor, wall, panel or decorative setting.

The design is organised around stylised peacock-feather forms, with rust-red, black and pale stone tones creating a strong graphic rhythm across the cream tessera field.
