This rust accent stone mosaic is a random assembly of mosaic fragments, hand cut and placed by hand. Simple and eye catching, the design shows a random field mosaic. Each stone is carefully selected, cut and then assembled by hand. The slight indentations in the mosaic field enhance the beauty of this mosaic despite its simplicity. Of particular interest is the irregular nature of the small tesserae, they sing and dance. Although randomly placed, there is much to be said about artistic licence here: no single creation will ever be the same. Only the discerning eye would pick this up, a small detail with maximum impact. Rust Accent Stone Mosaic and Scattered Colour

A pale cream and parchment base gives the stronger red-brown tesserae room to register individually, with cool grey pieces helping to prevent the palette from becoming uniformly warm. The effect is more punctuated than the near-neutral Field Mosaic – 5469L, but lighter overall than the dark multicolour Field Mosaic – 5469O. The Marble & Onyx Collection provides useful context for coordinating larger stone elements with the warm and cool notes in the mosaic.

Distributing Stronger Tesserae Across a Room

For a rust accent stone mosaic, the placement of the darkest red and grey pieces becomes increasingly important as the installation grows. Review several sheets together and rotate or redistribute them where necessary to avoid obvious clusters or unintended lines. Grout should be tested against both the pale field and the stronger accent stones. Where the mosaic is proposed for floors, pools or warm-climate exterior areas, confirm the complete fixing, sealing, substrate and slip-performance specification before installation.
