This polychrome drainage mosaic was originally designed as a pool coping and drainage detail, combining practical engineering with decorative artistry. Set on the diagonal, hand-cut marble tesserae form a lively diamond pattern in terracotta, ochre, deep blue, sage green and soft ivory tones.
Circular apertures are precisely integrated within the mosaic field, allowing discreet water drainage while maintaining the integrity of the design. What could have been a purely technical feature becomes a considered decorative element. Each tessera is individually cut and laid by hand in natural stone and marble, with subtle variation in tone and texture ensuring that no two sections read exactly alike.
The first gallery view makes the construction clear: a long coping band is crossed by diagonal pale tesserae, coloured diamond accents and repeated round drainage openings. For a broader poolside reference, De Ferranti’s Marine Pebble Mosaic Pool Surround explores another hand-laid stone approach to water-adjacent surfaces. The Pavements, Pavimenti & Flooring collection is also useful when coordinating decorative floor geometry beyond the coping itself.
A polychrome drainage mosaic must be set out around the technical requirement first. Aperture positions, falls, substrate build-up and interfaces with pool edges should be resolved before decorative modules are finalised. The coloured tesserae then need to continue convincingly across joints and cuts so the pattern remains coherent. Recorded applications include architectural details, bathrooms, floors, grilles, kitchens, leisure and residential settings, restaurants, swimming pools and yachts, with warm-climate exterior use also listed. Because water exposure and drainage performance depend on the complete construction, confirm fixing, sealing, substrate and project-specific technical details before ordering.
