This Roman labyrinth mosaic settles a black-lined labyrinth into a textured cream mosaic bed. Each stone is carefully selected, cut and assembled by hand. Slight indentations in the mosaic field enhance the surface despite the apparent simplicity of the palette, and the dark lines seem to stand above the handcrafted background. Of particular interest is the construction of the small tesserae: their controlled randomness gives the field much of its charm. Labirinto e Fiori combines rectilinear maze-like bands with four floral compartments.
