Antique stone mosaics are cut from ancient stones imbued with the patina of history. Gracefully worn by the passage of countless years, they give instant antiquity. De Ferranti cuts mosaics from reclaimed floors and provides them with a new lease of life. Our antique mosaics can be supplied in random finish, brickbond, squares or used in combination with other materials to form geometric and pictorial panels.
The collection centres on reclaimed Jerusalem stone, often referred to as Biblical stone, whose warm cream, honey, ochre and occasional terracotta tones carry genuine wear rather than a newly manufactured antiqued finish. Re-cutting the material into mosaic formats preserves softened edges, pitting, mineral marking and tonal variation while giving historic stone a new use.
The six-product collection moves from the flowing Fish Scale Mosaic and relaxed Random Square Mosaic to 5x5cm tesserae, two composed fields and a random interlocking format. For projects requiring the material at a larger scale, De Ferranti's Antique Jerusalem Stone flooring provides a closely related reference.
Antique stone mosaics should be reviewed with their inherent irregularity in mind. Colour range, patina, uncalibrated thickness where applicable, grout, edge conditions and the transition to adjoining stone can all affect the finished surface. Mesh-backed and interlocking formats simplify layout, but dry review and samples remain useful for balancing tonal variation and agreeing how a field or composition should meet borders and thresholds. Exterior and wet-area suitability should be confirmed against the individual product because the collection includes formats with different stated application guidance.
