Libeccio Antico
Libeccio Antico is a rare historic Sicilian marble from the Custonaci marble district in western Sicily, especially associated with the slopes of Monte Cocuccio near Trapani. Also known in historic Italian stone language as Libeccio di Custonaci or a form of soft Sicilian jasper, it is admired for its rich polychrome movement, with tones of deep red, ochre, ivory, yellow, green and darker mineral veining. Rather than being primarily an ancient Roman marble, Libeccio is most powerfully linked with medieval, Renaissance and Baroque architecture, becoming one of Sicily’s great decorative stones between the late 16th and 18th centuries. Its dramatic colour and painterly structure made it especially valued for churches, noble palaces, altars, columns, inlay, wall linings and ornamental interiors, with historic references connecting Custonaci marbles to important works including St Peter’s Basilica in Rome and the Royal Palace of Caserta.

With its theatrical Sicilian character, ecclesiastical history and rare architectural presence, Libeccio Antico is especially suited to luxury interiors, statement panels, bathrooms, fireplace surrounds, furniture, decorative slabs and projects where rare marbles, historic provenance and expressive natural colour are essential.
