The Rosellina lilac terracotta tile places off-white floral and corner-rose geometry over a softly coloured lilac ground. Hand-painted in a Southern Italian artisan studio, the design is recorded as Sicilian in origin and 19th century in character. The unusual muted colour gives the traditional repeat a quieter presence than the stronger green, red and black Rosellina colourways.
Rosellina’s corner roses link across neighbouring modules, extending the ornament beyond the limits of each tile. Against lilac, the pale floral scrolls remain clear without producing a stark contrast. Small variations in pigment, line weight and surface tone preserve the impression of a drawn and painted ceramic rather than a digitally reproduced pattern.
For a darker interpretation of the design, Rosellina Midnight Blue introduces a richer polychrome palette. Rosellina Saffron shifts the same floral framework towards warmer Mediterranean colour. Elsewhere at De Ferranti, Neisha Crosland’s Frieda in Powdery Bluebell offers a delicate floral grid in a related cool register, while Stella di Thera Rosa provides a softly finished ceramic surface with a plaster-like pink tone.
It forms part of the Italianate Handpainted Tiles Collection.
This lilac Italian tile can work where pattern is required without the intensity of a broad polychrome scheme. It may be considered for floors, walls, kitchens, bathrooms, restaurant interiors, staircases, tabletops, swimming-pool areas and selected warm-climate exterior applications, subject to specification. A sample panel should be reviewed for grout colour and tonal balance, particularly beside pale stone, lime plaster, warm timber, brushed brass or softly veined marble. Careful setting out will keep the linked corner roses legible around thresholds and fitted elements.
