The Lucia saffron terracotta tile is hand-painted in Southern Italy with complex white decoration over a delicately aged saffron ground. De Ferranti identifies the design as Sicilian in origin and 19th century in character. Four tiles complete the repeat, allowing its curving forms to connect into a larger floral and geometric composition with a warm, sunlit presence.
The saffron background sits between yellow, ochre and orange, colours long associated with southern Italian ceramics. White brushwork brings definition and movement without overwhelming the ground. Because each tile is painted and aged by hand, slight changes in tone, edge and registration remain visible when the four-tile units are assembled.
Within the Italianate range, Assunta Saffron develops the colour through denser floral geometry, while Rosellina Saffron introduces a scrolling pattern with corner roses. Elsewhere at De Ferranti, Neisha Crosland’s Marigold in Imperial Yellow provides strong botanical colour on terracotta, and Can-Can in Primrose offers a lighter floral companion for related decorative schemes.
It forms part of the Italianate Handpainted Tiles Collection.
Lucia Saffron can bring warmth to floors, walls, kitchens, bathrooms, staircases, fireplace surrounds, tabletops, restaurants and selected exterior settings in warm climates, subject to project specification. The repeat should be planned as complete four-tile units, with cut positions considered before laying. A sample panel will clarify the relationship between the aged saffron ground, white ornament, grout tone and adjacent natural materials. Confirm tile format, thickness and suitability for the intended installation before ordering.
