The Assunta saffron terracotta tile is hand-painted in a Southern Italian artisan studio with ornate floral and geometric decoration in saffron and orange over an off-white ground. De Ferranti identifies the pattern as Sicilian in origin and 18th century in character. Four tiles meet to complete the repeat, producing a larger composition with considerably more detail than a single field motif.

The repeat is best assessed as a complete four-tile panel rather than as an isolated piece. It can create a strong field across floors, feature walls, kitchen surfaces, bathrooms, stair landings, fireplaces and hospitality interiors. Warm-climate exterior use may be considered where the material and installation method allow. Setting out from the centre of the motif helps preserve its geometry, while a sample panel will establish grout width, orientation and the balance between saffron, orange and the aged off-white ground.
