The Emile Art Nouveau tile forms part of De Ferranti’s Art Nouveau Collection of handpainted ceramic panels.

In the spirit of reviving historical decorative movements, our Art Nouveau Collection comprises 8 handpainted 49 cm square ceramic panels of sixteen 11cm square tiles in vivid shades of orange, yellow and green.

Emile Art Nouveau Tile Design

Emile is defined by a strongly symmetrical composition of dark brown outlines, warm golden yellow, ochre and olive green against a white ground. Curving bands rise and fold towards the centre of the tile, while smaller scroll-like forms gather along the lower edge. Fine crackle lines remain visible across the pale surface, adding texture to the hand-painted colour and softening the precision of the graphic pattern.

The individual tile has an almost winged or mask-like character. When repeated and rotated within the larger composition, its curved lines meet across the joints to produce a continuous arrangement of mirrored forms. The result is structured without becoming rigid, balancing geometric order with the flowing, organic movement associated with Art Nouveau.

The name sits naturally within a collection that references Émile Gallé, whose glass and decorative objects helped establish the movement’s vocabulary of curved profiles, botanical inspiration and integrated ornament. Emile translates that wider design language into a ceramic repeat that can introduce colour and rhythm without relying on a literal floral image.

Hand-Painted Ceramic Panels for Interior Walls

The Emile Art Nouveau tile is intended for decorative internal wall applications, including bathrooms, residential interiors, restaurants and commercial settings. It can form a framed panel, be repeated across a broader feature wall or sit within a quieter field of plain tiles.

As the complete panel is assembled from sixteen individual tiles, the sequence and orientation should be checked before fixing. A dry layout or project mock-up can confirm the continuity of the pattern, overall dimensions, joint spacing and relationship with adjoining materials. Grout colour and perimeter detailing should be selected as part of the design rather than after the layout has been established.
