Aboriginal-Inspired Dot Painted Stone

Aboriginal-Inspired Dot Painted Stone

This collection draws inspiration from the rhythmic mark-making traditions of Australian Aboriginal dot painting. Applied to limestone, sandstone and marble, the porous surface of the stone softens the pigment, creating a textured, almost atmospheric finish.

Ancient storytelling, reinterpreted through stone.

The result is decorative stone that feels both contemporary and deeply rooted in visual tradition.

Dot painting traditions use repeated marks to build pattern, movement and symbolic narrative. In this collection, those principles are translated into architectural surfaces, where layered pigment interacts with the natural variation of the stone beneath.

The porous character of limestone and sandstone allows the paint to absorb gently into the surface, producing a muted, time-worn quality rather than a flat graphic effect. Marble introduces subtle contrast, with dots appearing crisper yet still grounded by mineral texture.

Designs may range from organic, constellation-like compositions to structured geometric fields suitable for floor “carpet” layouts or feature wall panels.

Each piece is carefully stencilled and painted by hand, ensuring variation and individuality within every installation.

Rhythmic. Textural. Rooted in mark-making tradition.
