Woodfired Terracotta – Hexagon Scallop Panel
A sculptural hexagonal field composed of hand-cut terracotta scales, framed by a restrained stone border. At its heart, overlapping semicircular terracotta pieces create a flowing fish-scale effect – reminiscent of Roman tegula patterns and Mediterranean roof tiles, yet reinterpreted for the floor. The modules move in a gentle directional rhythm, catching light differently across the surface and producing a subtle play of shadow between each curved edge.

The tones range from pale almond and sun-washed sand to warm biscuit, soft apricot and toasted clay. Each piece carries the atmospheric imprint of wood firing – faint smoke halos, speckling and edge darkening that give depth and authenticity. No two scales are identical.

The outer hexagonal frame, composed of rectilinear stone or pale terracotta blocks, grounds the movement within a disciplined architectural geometry. The contrast between the fluid interior and the structured border creates balance – organic within order.

Construction
Hand-formed and woodfired terracotta scales, individually set within a hexagonal format and framed by cut stone or terracotta blocks.

Finish
Natural matte with kiln variation. Lightly rubbed edges accentuate relief and shadow between modules.

A decorative module that can stand alone as a focal medallion or be tessellated across a larger field. Textural, rhythmic and deeply rooted in traditional craft – yet unmistakably contemporary in composition.
