This panel is crafted using the classical Pietre Dure tradition, where contrasting marbles, hardstones and semi-precious materials are inlaid into a stone ground and finished perfectly flush. The kingfisher’s plumage is rendered with extraordinary precision, using minute tesserae to capture feather direction, tonal shifts, and the natural sheen of the bird’s cobalt and copper colouring.

Every element is composed as if it were paint, but achieved entirely through stone selection and cut. The result is a surface that feels both jewel-like and architectural, with depth that reveals itself at close range.
