This entirely hand-painted ceramic basin transforms a functional object into a narrative tableau of movement and symbolism. Inspired by East Asian decorative traditions, the composition captures koi fish in swirling waters beneath stylised clouds.

Carefully moulded in ceramic, the basin is meticulously hand-painted before being glazed and fired at approximately 1200°C, sealing the artwork beneath a luminous, durable surface. The design unfolds across the bowl in rich cobalt and layered blues, with two koi fish emerging dynamically through curling, foam-like waves.

One fish appears in softer ivory and blush tones, the other in deeper bronze and slate , their scales delicately detailed and articulated. Around them, stylised cloud forms and rhythmic water patterns create a sense of perpetual motion, drawing the eye around the curvature of the basin. The golden rim, punctuated with subtle detailing, frames the composition and enhances the richness of the palette.

Symbolising resilience, transformation and good fortune, the koi motif brings narrative depth as well as visual drama. Each basin is individually painted, ensuring subtle variations that reinforce its artisanal character and bespoke quality.
