Neisha Crosland
Roman Plait Limestone Mosaic Border
Introduction
A Roman-inspired border with a braided, rhythmic band running through a field of pale . Subtle, earthy colour accents create movement without shouting, giving the piece the quiet authority of an archaeological fragment.

From De Ferranti’s Stone Mosaics category, this border is crafted from hard limestones sourced from Israel, selected for their durability and soft natural tone. The design centres on a repeating plait motif built from small in layered neutrals, warm blush-stone, and deep charcoal accents. The alternating diagonals create a woven effect, adding direction and energy along corridors, perimeters, and framed panels.

The braided band is set between pale blocks that read like aged paving stones - lightly varied, softly mottled, and architectural. The contrast is gentle rather than harsh, making it easy to pair with a wide range of stones while still delivering a clear classical reference.

Materials
Hard limestones from Israel, with contrasting accents.

Recommended Uses
Floor and wall borders, perimeter framing around stone fields, thresholds, corridor runs, shower detailing, and decorative banding within larger installations.
