Interpretation of exercising women as shown at a Roman
Villa
in Sicily, Italy
An ancient Roman
mosaic
of women exercising. For women, a workout usually consisted of hoop rolling or ball throwing. Some lifted weights as well, but this activity was met with a feelings of impropriety by most ancient writers. This
mosaic
certainly provides a snapshot into Roman life.
This is one of many of De Ferranti's
micro
mosaic
reinterpretations.
