El Jem Peacock Plume Inlay Panel – Semi-Precious on Ivory Marble
A contemporary reinterpretation of a Roman motif found at El Jem, Tunisia. Peacock plumes, ribbons, and stylised foliage are re-drawn in stone and elevated with semi-precious inlays - a classical design given jewelled colour and extraordinary material depth.

From De Ferranti’s Inlay category, this panel is built using decorative inlay: agates, jaspers, , and are precisely cut and set into a creamy ivory field, then finished flush to create a single, refined surface.

The composition centres on elegant plume forms, each “eye” highlighted with deep lapis and cool-toned stone that reads like a miniature gem set into the pattern. Around them, zigzag ribbon bands in warm reds and cool blues arc across the field, while leaf sprays in green tones bring botanical movement and balance. The ivory ground keeps everything calm and luminous, allowing the colours to feel rich without becoming loud.

This piece works beautifully as a framed wall panel, a centre insert within larger stone floors, a niche backdrop, or a statement surface where Roman archaeology meets modern craft. Colourways and stone selections can be adapted to suit bespoke commissions while retaining the historic El Jem reference.
