This panel captures St John in three-quarter profile, his expression contemplative and ascetic, with elongated features and flowing hair that echo the language of early iconography. The composition is restrained yet dramatic: a luminous gilded field, earth-toned robes with pale blue highlights, and fine linework that gives the face and drapery their disciplined clarity.
Made on timber panels using traditional preparation methods, the surface is built in layers - gesso ground, hand-applied , and carefully painted passages that can be executed in and plant-derived pigments to honour historic practice. The surrounding frame is decorated with repeating roundels and scroll motifs, giving the work an architectural, chapel-like enclosure.
The finish can be kept crisp, or gently aged to introduce and the softened authority of an older object. Suitable as a feature panel, an alcove centrepiece, or part of a curated icon wall. Available in custom sizes, with bespoke border treatments and tonal adjustments to suit the interior.
