Archangel Gabriel – Painted Icon Door
A devotional door panel featuring Archangel Gabriel, painted in the Byzantine tradition and aged to feel genuinely time-held.

This piece presents Archangel Gabriel as a full-height icon painted directly onto a timber door, with the halo and background laid in luminous gold. His robe falls in deep cobalt tones, set against a field of warm ochre and weathered , creating that unmistakable glow associated with sacred iconography.

The character of the object is inseparable from the wood itself: plank lines, knots, old fixings and surface irregularities remain visible, so the image feels embedded in the door rather than applied to it. The finish is intentionally distressed, with softened edges and worn passages that suggest generations of touch, incense and candlelight.

Ideal as an entrance to a private chapel, library, wine room, or as a theatrical pivot door within a layered interior, this can be commissioned as a single statement door or as part of a wider iconographic scheme - matched saints, companion panels, and borders - with control over palette, ageing level, and timber tone.
