Serpent Inlaid into Red Terracotta is a historic interpretation of medieval ecclesiastical pavement design. The snake wraps around itself in a fluid, almost calligraphic movement, symbolising continuity and renewal.
The figure is composed of small triangular , precisely cut and assembled to create a textured, rhythmic surface. The fine linear patterning of the pieces gives the serpent depth and direction, enhancing the sense of movement across the panel.
Set within a richly toned red terracotta field, the contrast between the cool and the earthy clay background evokes the atmosphere of ancient cloisters and Romanesque interiors. The terracotta’s natural variation and reinforce the archaeological character of the piece.
Produced to special commission, this panel can be adapted in scale, substrate and stone selection to suit floors, courtyards or feature walls, maintaining the integrity of traditional craftsmanship while responding to contemporary architectural contexts.
