Serpent Bas Relief Panel combines traditional with intricate inlay. The background stone is hand carved to create depth and contour, allowing the serpent to rise in bas relief from its field, echoing techniques used since Ancient Egyptian and Mesopotamian times.
Within the carved form, small triangular in varied tones are carefully inlaid, adding colour, texture and movement to the sculptural surface. The interplay between smooth stone and faceted brings light into the composition, enhancing the illusion of motion.
Offered by special commission, De Ferranti’s carved bas relief panels can be executed in stone or ceramic, with inlay incorporated into selected elements. From historically inspired narratives to entirely contemporary compositions, each piece is tailored to its architectural context and scale.
