Bespoke Roman-Style Mosaic Commission for Private Pool – Thame, Oxfordshire
Specified by Lady Henrietta Spencer-Churchill for a private property in Thame, Oxfordshire, this Roman-style mosaic commission was designed, supplied and installed by De Ferranti’s in-house mosaic artist, Valter Solari. Developed from De Ferranti archive references and adapted in close collaboration with the client, the finished artwork forms a seamless, architectural focal point for the pool interior.

This bespoke mosaic depicts a classical scene of a female dancer pouring water, composed in a Roma-inspired style with rich borders, balanced symmetry and a painterly use of tesserae. After a detailed search through the De Ferranti archives, the original reference design was refined and re-proportioned to suit the exact geometry and sightlines of the space, ensuring the artwork reads correctly from the pool and surrounding terrace.

nThe project was fully templated, fabricated off-site, and then installed with precise setting-out so that every element interlocked cleanly. Each piece was cut and assembled to align with the overall composition, resulting in a finished surface that reads as one continuous image rather than separate sections.

nFrom concept adaptation through fabrication and installation, the commission demonstrates De Ferranti’s capability in custom mosaic design, particularly for high-value residential settings where technical planning, craftsmanship and artistic integrity must meet at the same standard.
