Split-Faced Fan Mosaic – Softened Limestone

This split-faced limestone mosaic is a softly radiating fan design in pale limestone, created to catch light through texture rather than strong colour contrast. Split-faced and gently softened, it has a calm, chalky presence with a distinctly hand-worked character. The mosaic is laid in curved courses that spiral outward in a fan-like movement, creating subtle motion across the surface. Each small stone piece is split-faced for natural relief, then softened so the edges feel worn rather than sharp. The result is a dry, tactile finish with delicate shadow play, particularly under grazing light. Its colour remains within a restrained limestone spectrum of warm ivory, parchment and faint sandy undertones. Irregularities in the split face and slight variation in tessera size make the surface feel crafted rather than mechanically uniform. It is suited to feature walls, floors, shower enclosures, niches and statement sections where quiet movement and surface depth are required.

Split-Faced Limestone Mosaic and Radiating Fan Geometry

The pattern shares a curved visual language with Fish Scale Stone Mosaic, although the fan construction is read through relief rather than contrasting bands. Marble Teardrops Mosaic provides another directional, overlapping stone rhythm. For projects centred on tactile finishes, Stone Surfaces with Texture broadens the comparison beyond mosaic, while the Limestone Collection offers complementary larger-format stone references.

Lighting, Relief and Installation Planning

A split-faced limestone mosaic should be reviewed under the intended lighting because grazing illumination can make the relief considerably more pronounced. Dry lay adjoining sheets or sections to check that the fan courses continue naturally and that the curved movement resolves cleanly at corners or edges. Where used on floors, in swimming pools or in warm-climate exterior areas, confirm substrate, fixing method, sealing, slip requirements and exposure suitability for the selected finish before installation.
