Neisha Crosland
Evil Eye in Grey

This grey evil eye mosaic from De Ferranti’s Bardo Collection outlines the repeated eye motif in cool charcoal-grey against a pale limestone field. With a sophisticated matt finish, the collection offers a modern take on ancient Roman mosaic craft, while the almost chalky surface keeps the contrast restrained and mineral.

The Bardo Collection is available in a variety of sizes, colours and designs, including stripes, florals and other geometric patterns. In Evil Eye in Grey, curved dark tessera lines run horizontally across warm off-white stone, with concentric grey and cream circles forming the centres. Small natural shifts in the field stone soften what is otherwise a very disciplined repeat.

Grey Evil Eye Mosaic with Charcoal Linework

The warmer Evil Eye in gold uses honeyed outlines, while Evil Eye in Gold-Beige introduces muted taupe around the circular centres. De Ferranti’s Limestone Collection provides a useful reference for coordinating adjoining stone and testing whether the scheme should lean warm or cool.

Alignment, Contrast and Sample Selection

A grey evil eye mosaic gains much of its character from the continuity of the charcoal lines, so the repeat should be set out before fixing begins. Consider where complete eye centres land at focal viewpoints and how the motif is cropped at corners, niches and thresholds. A grout close to the pale background will preserve the clarity of the grey drawing, while a deeper grout creates a busier tessellated effect. Samples should be viewed in the intended lighting because cool grey stone can read warmer beside timber and brass. Recorded applications include bathrooms, commercial interiors, flooring, kitchens, residential interiors, restaurants, internal walling and tile applications. Exterior use is not listed and should not be assumed.
