Neisha Crosland
Silver Mosaic

As a silver pyrite mosaic, (whose material also known as Fool’s Gold), its cooler metallic tone combines with the mineral’s natural luminescence to create a reflective surface with subtle tonal movement. Available in various sizes, including briquettes and pavers, it can also be produced as bespoke-sized slabs. The design may be customised with contrasting materials such as black agate, lapis lazuli, mother of pearl or jasper.

Silver Pyrite Mosaic with Cooler Metallic Notes

This mosaic brings the collection’s reflective mineral character into a cooler tonal register. The silver pyrite mosaic is read through repeated tesserae and the changing relationship between metallic pieces and their joints, creating a surface that shifts subtly with viewing angle. Compared with a larger geometric tile, mosaic scale allows the mineral effect to feel more granular and continuous.

Gold Mosaic offers a warmer brassy-gold counterpart, while Egyptian Gold – Silver Flecked Mosaic introduces a more visibly flecked interpretation. De Ferranti’s Mosaics – All Disciplines collection provides reference for tesserae and layout, and Shells & Mother of Pearl offers another naturally reflective surface family for schemes where cool shimmer and material contrast matter.

Reviewing Tesserae, Joints and Adjacent Surfaces

A representative sample should be viewed under project lighting before the silver pyrite mosaic is specified. Assess both the mineral tone and the joint colour, since a stronger contrast can emphasise individual tesserae while a closer tone can make the field read more continuously.

For a niche, panel, border or wall surface, establish dimensions before setting out so perimeter cuts and transitions are controlled. If the mosaic is combined with black agate, lapis lazuli, mother of pearl, jasper or another mineral, compare the materials together and consider their relative reflectivity as well as colour. Final format, sizing, joint treatment and customised combinations should be confirmed for the project.
