A finely hand painted Portuguese tile from the Bestiário series, inspired by the historic azulejo panels of the Palácio dos Marqueses de Fronteira in Lisbon, with roots in 17th-century Amsterdam workshop traditions.

Jardim Tropical captures a miniature world of foliage, water and wildlife: a peacock-like bird at the pond’s edge, small creatures in the undergrowth, and a canopy of leaves rendered in loose, expressive brushwork. The palette is fresh and painterly, with watery blues, moss and olive greens, and warm ochres, all held together by confident dark outlines that give the scene its graphic clarity.

Made and painted by hand, each tile carries subtle variation in line, tone and glaze movement, which is part of the charm and authenticity of the piece. Use it as a single framed feature, a highlight within a larger field of plain ceramics, or as part of a narrative wall composition in splashbacks, niches, stair halls and garden rooms.

Map the scene before installation so the bird, pond and smaller creatures remain legible. Review grouped samples with the intended field tile and grout, then place cuts beyond the principal foliage and figures. Read the assembled panel in natural and artificial light before agreeing the final orientation.
